What I love about my territory: I love meeting students with such a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, from right here in the Midwest to across the country. The states in my territory have deepened my understanding of the many different communities and places that make up the United States, and I especially enjoy helping students discover a new side of Ä¢¹½´«Ã½, whether they are looking close to home or considering a college experience further away.

What I love about Ä¢¹½´«Ã½: Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ is just such a unique place! It has a cosmopolitan campus environment alongside a deep rootedness in — and strong ethic of service toward — rural communities and issues. I love that Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ students can engage with big ideas and global perspectives while also feeling connected to the place where they live and learn.

Hobbies/activities: Growing plants brings me so much joy. During the Iowa growing season, you can often find me in my vegetable garden or tending to prairie and pollinator patches around my home. I also enjoy cooking (and eating!) the food I grow, biking Iowa’s endless gravel roads, reading science fiction, and spending time outside with my family.

Advice about searching for schools: When you’re researching colleges, sign up for opportunities to connect with current students. Those conversations can give you the most authentic sense of a college’s community and culture, and they can help you get beyond what you’ll find on a website or campus tour.

Advice about applying to schools: Ask your high school teachers for letters of recommendation early! Even if a particular teacher likes you very much, they may be writing letters for many students, so giving them plenty of time will help them write a thoughtful and detailed recommendation. A little advanced planning can make the whole process easier for everyone.
