The Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Libraries continue our Faculty/Staff Research Series on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4:15 p.m. in Burling Lounge with David Harrison, professor of French, for his book talk, “Digital Publishing and Translation: Reading ‘La Princesse de Clèves’ in the 21st Centuryâ€�. Professor Harrison is the principal translator and co-editor of “'La Princesse de Clèves' by Lafayette: A New Translation and Bilingual Pedagogical Edition for the Digital Ageâ€�, published by Lever Press in 2022. Professor Harrison will discuss the advantages of digital publishing for classic novels and the challenges he faced in translating a 17th-century French novel into English. Refreshments will be served.
Professor David Harrison received a B.A. in French from Swarthmore College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on the literature and culture of the 17th and 18th centuries in France. At Ä¢¹½´«Ã½, he was the director of the Center for International Studies and helped to create the with Trustee Susan McCurry ’71.
